Hey all - Just getting the conversation started! Reply to this thread if you've already decided what you're doing for Local Illuminations. If you're looking for some collaboration on it, put that in the Subject of your reply!

Hi, NSPA is working with other Asian groups to present a coherent group of floats so there are no repeats. We are working on the national flower of India, the Lotus, which is also a flower found in many parts of South East Asia. We have a concept for a mechanical lotus that will work on a battery and/or traditional power source. We have a good idea on the mechanics of the movement of the petals, the overall height of each petal, its width, the size of the base needed and the angles the movements need to be inwards and outwards to create the illusion of a flowering lotus. What we need: Someone who has created something like this before who can guide us. Ideally someone who has created a mechanical frame and then put a material on the form to create the desired object. To keep it safe, we will illuminate the lotus from the inside and the outside., without adding any LED lamps in close contact with the fabric. Any leads will be appreciated TIA

Hi there, This is my first time working with blink. I am working with a group 25-30 dancers of all ages. I very much want to do a flash mob of a few dancers from the 30 I have, and would be nice to collab with a group who has the light tech aspect. Also, I have applied for the parade. I am a little foggy on the process.

I conduct the Young Professionals Choral Collective (www.ypccsing.org), a young professionals community chorus for tri-state area YPs ages 21-45. We would LOVE to be a part of the BLINK experience. Last fall, we collaborated with Cincy Illuminations to produce an hour-long sound-responsive lighting experience at Memorial Hall, with the lights responding to the tempo, volume, and intensity of our singing. It was MAGIC, and we loved how it enriched our choral performance. I would love to do something similar this fall and would be interested in collaborations of this sort. We also commission a new work per year, often featuring area composers. Our most recent premier included pre-recorded sound, layered and mixed into our live performance. It is our goal to take this work and expand it with images, video, or lighting.
Our fall concert takes place Tuesday, Oct. 18, 7 PM at Knox Joseph Distillery. We could incorporate a light element into this concert, but we could also be a part of someone else's artistic presentation the weekend of BLINK by providing vocal music. We have an intrepid group of on-call singers who would relish the experience. Pieces that would go well with light mapping/projection/dancers using light as a tool (think lighted skirts, lighted ribbons or glow wands) are numerous. Pieces by Eric Whitacre are especially appealing.
Please contact me if you'd like to brainstorm! If we do something the weekend of BLINK, we would need a venue and a partner. If it's part of our concert, we can fold you into our production.

Hi Dan,
Good to see you on the call today. Funny you mention Knox Joseph. Zach and I met with Everything Cincy (do you know them? It's an online directory group). They're interested in doing an after BLINK party there.
Would you like to reach out to them to see if they'd like to partner?
Kathy

Joining this thread in hopes of learning more. The College Hill Community Council (also known as the College Hill Forum) would like to participate in the local illuminations but don't know how. We have several areas in our business district that would be great for installations but we don't know where to start. Can someone help point us in the right direction? TIA

TIA Hi College Hill Forum (so exciting, I'm a College Hill resident!), You could possibly send out a call for artists for the businesses that are interested in the district. Once you identify the artists and businesses you would register the event with ArtsWave through the ArtsWave Guide. Additional instructions can be found here: artswave.org/LIAssets. (As a resident I am also happy to help with sending and drafting the call to artists if you you need help in those areas, jeni@jenibarton.com).
